The Foo Fighters have issued a video preview of the forthcoming HBO series about the recording of their new album, Sonic Highways. It looks spectacular, especially if you're into the creative process of writing, molding and recording a song from start to finish.
According to HBO:
Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl directs the series, which taps into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities: Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and New York. The band based themselves at a legendary recording studio integral to the unique history and character of each location.
One song was recorded in each city, and every track features local legends. Even the lyrics were developed in an experimental, unprecedented way: Grohl held off on writing them until the last day of each session, letting himself be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process.
The HBO series will premiere on October 17th at 10:00 p.m. Chicago time. The Foo Fighters will release their new album, also titled "Sonic Highways," on November 10.
The album will be available on CD and 180 gram vinyl; the vinyl includes a download card and comes in an assortment of nine different covers – including eight variants each themed for one of the cities in which the album was recorded. Each of the city-specific covers features the number 8 somewhere in the artwork.
The only place where you can order a specific cover is at sonichighways.foofighters.com
