Ron Wood Takes a Stand on Singing Competition Shows

Ron WOod

There have been no lack of rock ‘n’ rollers speaking out against singing competition shows like The Voice and American Idol, but it’s usually fro the reasons of pre-packaged blandness and over produced songs.  Rolling Stones Guitarist Ron Wood has a different take on why these shows can be harmful – the pressure it puts on inexperienced singers to perform in front of judges, a studio audience, and millions of people watching at home, who have never felt that kind of pressure before.  Ron recently told NME, “Apart from being nervous and playing in front of a panel, they play in front of millions and millions of people. It’s bad for their ego if they don’t make it, or if they make a mistake, I mean, it’s magnified so much more.  I’m amazed more people don’t commit suicide, do you know what I mean?”  It’s a very valid point by a very validated star in rock ‘n’ roll.
