Frustrated by singer Steven Tyler’s pursuit of anything BUT Aerosmith, the other band members have undertaken their own projects. Lead guitarist Joe Perry is playing in Hollywood Vampires, rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford is touring with former Ted Nugent singer Derek St. Holmes behind a new album called “Reunion”, and bassist Tom Hamilton is going to play shows with Thin Lizzy as they mark the 40th anniversary of the “Jailbreak” album.
As for Tyler, he hits the road this summer on what he is calling the “Out On A Limb” tour, and is expected to soon release a country album.
So, speaking to MetalRules.com, Whitford says Aerosmith may even hit the road without Tyler. ““Absolutely, we have considered it – but whether it will happen I don’t know. I think it would be great.”
Saying working in Aerosmith involves “a lot of turmoil”, Whitford says ““[It] can be frustrating. It should be easy. The whole thing started because of the music. If the focus was right there everything would be fine, but we don’t. Let the drivers drive and let the music happen everything will fall into place. We get caught up into a lot of silly stuff.”
As for who would sing for Aerosmith, it’s not clear as to whether someone in the band would pick up those duties, or if they’d find a replacement. Stay with The Loop for the latest.
