Metallica’s New Album Is Finished, Targeted for Fall Release

In a new interview with Citizens of Humanity, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich reports their next album is in the mixing stage and the band is shooting for a fall release.  Earlier in the year Ulrich said that 2016 was going to be an “in your face” year for the band, so perhaps this mean we’ll be seeing them on the road before years’ end.

He also compared the new work to 2008’s “Death Magnetic”, saying “It’s probably a little less frenetic than the last record.  It’s probably a bit more of a diverse record than the last one. It’s exciting, but I don’t have quite the perspective yet.”

The band worked with a new producer, replacing the famous Rick Rubin for this recording.  “Rick Rubin really encouraged us to, for the first time, be inspired by our past.  It was the first time we sort of looked in the rearview mirror. This time around it’s a little bit of a different thing. We’re not working with Rick, we’re working with the engineer from the last record, who’s producing, Greg Fidelman. So there’s some of the same production elements at play, but we’re expanding a little bit on the sonics.”
