Hollywood Records will release a special box set in celebration of what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 70th birthday on September 5th.
Messenger of the Gods – The Singles contains all 13 of Freddie’s solo singles on individually colored seven-inch vinyl. It begins with a cover of The Beach Boys’ “I Can Hear the Music” released in 1973, a week before Queen’s first single came out. (Mercury released it as Larry Lurex, a pun on Gary Glitter and the metallic yarn Lurex.)
Among the other singles in the collection are “Love Kills” produced by Giorgio Moroder, “I Was Born to Love You,” “Made in Heaven,” “Living on My Own,” “Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow” and a cover of The Platters’ “The Great Pretender.”
