Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Gary Rossington Having Heart Checked

No word yet as to whether or not this will affect their scheduled concert on July 30th at Festival Park in Elgin, but Lynyrd Skynyrd were forced to cancel a concert in New York state this evening after guitarist Gary Rossington suffered chest pains.

Rossington’s heart issues date back to at least the early 2000’s when Rossington had bypass surgery, and the band cancelled a series of dates last year when he suffered a severe heart attack.

Here’s the statement from Lynyrd Skynrd via Twtter last night:

“Lynyrd Skynyrd’s performance at Artpark in Lewiston, NY on July 19th has been cancelled.   We hope to reschedule the show in the near future.

Founding member and guitar player, Gary Rossington, is seeking doctor’s evaluation in Atlanta after experiencing some chest pains. Lynyrd Skynyrd will resume their tour once Gary is cleared by medical professionals.  We will advise as soon as we have additional information.”
