Released on March 3, 1986, it was their first album for a major label. And their last with bassist Cliff Burton. And also the album that transformed Metallica into heavy rock superstars. After teasing fans with a few pages, now comes word that the book they promised documenting the “Master of Puppets” recording and subsequent tour arrives September 13, although fans can order a deluxe edition on August 30.
Metallica worked with author Matt Taylor on the book, which is a crowd-sourced effort.
“Two years in the making, we’re beyond excited to finally share it with you,” the band says in the official announcement. “You all jumped in to assist us in putting the pieces together by sending your photos, videos, stories and mementos. We hit the storage lockers, attics and basements to fill the book with hundreds of never-before-seen images pulled from our personal archives and have been involved every step of the way to bring you the complete story.”
