It’s a much loved song that’s been covered by the Foo Fighters, and even in part by Slash during this summer’s Guns N’ Roses “Not In This Lifetime” tour. Slash has said that he drew inspiration from the soaring saxophone solo that is the signature of Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” from his 1978 album “City to City” for the solo on “Sweet Child Of Mine”.
As for Rafferty, he died in 2011 at the age of 63. The saxophonist is Raphael Ravenscroft, and while his work is instantly recognizable, the song also includes a searing guitar solo.
David Lee Roth included his take on the song to close out the most recent edition of his podcast “Roth Show”, and it is startlingly true to the original. We’re not sure where the backing track came from or who played on it.
We isolated it for you so you can enjoy it here.
