While we probably owe the fact that we’re just hearing about this to his remote location in Tauranga, New Zealand, we are learning that troubled ex-AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd suffered a heart attack last month. Speaking to that country’s Bay of Plenty Times, Rudd says he suffered the heart attack after feeling chest pains after walking to the store to get cigarettes. “Yeah, I had a f…… heart attack, but I am good now, got a stent inside.”
“I was just at home walking around at home, and I started feel, well just funny. You know how you can feel funny? I had a strange pain in my chest. So my housekeeper took me to the hospital, when they hooked me up and did all these tests turned out I had a big heart attack…my artery was all blocked up, and they said I had to stay in and have an operation.”
This is the latest setback for AC/DC’s longtime former drummer who derailed the launch of his solo album “Head Job” when he was arrested in 2014 for threatening to kill two people and possession of marijuana and methamphetines. After serving eight months of house arrest, Rudd claimed to the New Zealand Herald that he is a changed man. “I’m not like that any more. I’ve never felt better as a drummer or a person. I am not saying I never hope of ever playing with AC/DC again but, then again, is it even AC/DC any more? No Bon [Scott]‘s beautiful voice. No Malcolm [Young]. No Brian [Johnson].”
Rudd is determined to get his solo effort off the ground and will be performing fall concerts in Europe. His criminal record prevents him from visiting and performing in the United States.
