Black Sabbath are the focus of a new arts program in the U.K.
Arts Council England has plunked down $562,000 to help the arts organization Capsule create a three-year international program inspired by the story of how Sabbath changed the face of music.
The money will be used to bring together fans, artists, academic institutions and cultural venues to explore the cultural legacy of the band and the musical genre they created.
Guitarist Tony Iommi says, “An artist or band’s success can be measured by their relationship with the fans… It’s always humbling to realize how you’ve touched people’s lives with your music. A project where fans are actively involved would be great.”
If all goes according to plan, the program will launch in February to tie in with Sabbath’s last-ever shows – February 2nd and 4th in their hometown of Birmingham, England.
