DAMN, IT’S COLD… 5 weather survival tips

Sub zero wind chills. Endless snow. Chicago winters can suck… how can you survive the cold?

Here are some tips from actual experts:

  • Don’t drink. I’m sorry… this is science talking, not me. Booze lowers your core temperature.
  • Your toes need to be warm. Frostbite starts with fingers and toes. Leave the Converse at home and throw on the big, ugly boots. No one’s judging you; it’s freaking cold out.
  • Don’t be a jackass with the space heater. Keep flammable stuff far away from the space heater, or end up being “that story” on the 10 o’clock news.
  • Wear a hat. That line about losing up to 50% of your body heat if you’re not wearing a hat is total B.S.; it’s more like 7%. The simple fact is that you lose body heat from any surface that’s exposed. So if you’re going bare-headed, you’re going to be cold.
  • Eat food that keeps you warm. Does beer chili violate the “Don’t drink” tip?
