After Asia singer John Wetton died earlier this year, there was a widespread assumption that the band was over. They finished off a planned tour with Billy Sherwood on vocals and made no plans beyond that.
Drummer Carl Palmer recently told Billboard there aren’t any Asia plans for now, but “that’s not to say it won’t happen.” And with that, there’s at least a glimmer of hope that the band could find some way to continue. Palmer’s currently touring with his ELP Experience (part of the “Yestival,” which lands in Elgin on Saturday). Asia co-member Geoff Downes plays keyboards for Yes, so there’s a good chance the topic will come up while on the road.
