“It” arrives in theaters tonight, and there’s already a sequel planned. Variety reports that the sequel is a “near-certainty,” since the Stephen King book focuses on two storylines, and this film mostly zeroes in on the story involving its child characters.
And early reviews are mostly positive…
New York Post – “New Stephen King ‘It’ movie is blood-curdlingly creepy”
marieclaire – “Cool the movie is over, as is my ability to sleep. But I loved it. Bye forever”
Hollywood Reporter – “To be sure, the picture’s villain gets an entrance as unsettling as any viewer could hope for.”
Variety – “alternately terrifying, hallucinatory, and ludicrous nightmare imagery; a sometimes jarring pileup of moods, ranging from haunted house horror to nostalgic hangout humor; a popcorn movie about gruesome child murders; a series of well-crafted yet decreasingly effective suspense setpieces”
New York Daily News – ‘It’ taps into King’s bleak views of coming of age and the high school experience”
The Telegraph – “Stephen King’s evil clown tale is no laughing matter”
