By now, most rock fans have heard the story about how Rush saved their career with the release of their fourth album, “2112.” The previous album, “Caress of Steel,” was a commercial flop and the band’s record label made it clear that Rush’s future was hanging by a thread. Going against label advice, Rush stuck to their guns and put out the album they wanted to make, a concept album whose first side told an anti-totalitarian, anti-fascist story in seven glorious parts.
“2112” was slow out of the gate, but eventually gained significant traction for the band and saved their career.
