It’s November now. A time to give thanks for family, friends, food, and football. And you can’t begin to enjoy the month of November without a tip to the rock pioneers of our past: Guns N’ Roses. In 1992, “November Rain” premiered on Headbangers Ball and to this day, it’s 9 minute music video continues to leave us in wonder. No really.
-Slash, to this day, has NO idea what the “November Rain” music video is all about. It might have to do with the fact Slash was lit up and at a low point in his recovery to sobriety.
-At the time it was released, “November Rain” was considered the most expensive music video ever made. The total cost? 1.5 million. With a large chunk of that used to build the chapel in the desert.
-The concert footage is fake. Guns N’ Roses hired 1,500 extras to fill a theater in LA. They did, however, play “November Rain” live a couple times to keep the extras entertained during the long, arduous day of shooting.
-Axl’s wife is played by Stephanie Seymour. She was Axl’s girlfriend at the time but most notably known for her modeling career. She also has a cameo in “Don’t Cry”. Their relationship fizzled out by 1993, but their romance will always live on in this music video. How would you like to see a replay of your exes for eternity?
-“November Rain” is the longest song to crack the Billboard Top 10. Peaking at #2 in July of 1992. It clocks in at 8:45 seconds on the Loop but the live version can last upwards of 10 + minutes with Axl behind the grand piano.
