New microbe species named after Rush

Rush’s influence continues to spread… three new species of microbe found in termites have been named after the three members of the band. The University of British Columbia says the microbes were named after Rush because of “the microbes’ long hair and rhythmic wriggling under the microscope.”

The three new Pseudotrichonympha species have been named P. leei (Geddy Lee), P. lifesoni (Alex Lifeson) and P. Pearti (Neil Peart). If you want to read the super-scientific breakdown, grab a cold one and dig into the academic piece “Pseudotrichonympha leei, Pseudotrichonympha lifesoni, and Pseudotrichonympha pearti, new species of parabasalian flagellates and the description of a rotating subcellular structure.
