‘Facebook for kids’ is a thing

Facebook rolled out “Messenger Kids” this morning, a messaging app designed for kids between 6-13. Security concerns? Facebook expected that. To use it, a parent must download the app to their kid’s phone or tablet. From there, a parent can create a profile for their child and then approve contacts. Here’s how Facebook’s Newsroom site explains it:

According to TechCrunch, “Special proactive detection safety filters prevent children from sharing nudity, sexual content, or violence, while a dedicated support team will respond quickly to reported or flagged content.” Ads and in-app purchases will not be part of the Messenger for Kids experience.
