When Metallica went to their fans seeking memoribilia, photos and keepsakes to include in their album re-release packages, the band came across a treasure trove of material. So much so, that this material will be part of a book documenting the sessions for their last album before bassist Cliff Burton’s death in 1986 as a result of a bus crash as the band toured Europe.
The book is due September 13th and will be called “Back to the Front”. The band has issued an emotional promo video in which they reflect on Burton as well as his father Ray, who’s father remains a part of Metallica’s inner circle. Ray Burton can be seen in a recent video seeing an advance copy of the book.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett is virtually brought to tears in the clip, during which singer James Hetfield says, ““I still miss Cliff, no doubt. I’d love to see him again at some point,” James Hetfield says in the clip, which you can watch above. “So seeing photos that I haven’t seen before, especially where we’re together, that is awesome. To get another piece of him back into my heart is great.”
