The merchandising of The Who’s 50th anniversary continues with the deluxe reissue of their first album, 1965’s My Generation — released in the U.S. in April 1966 as The Who Sings My Generation.
Available in numerous configurations, including a 79-track, five-disc set, this release contains unreleased demos, unreleased alternate mixes, new remasters and a stereo remix that was created using new overdubs from Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. For this mix, Townshend used the same exact guitars and amps as on the original album, and Daltrey used the same type of microphone. Among the unreleased demos are three songs that they never revisited — “The Girls I Could Have Had,” “As Children We Grew” and “My Own Love.”
Townshend, who contributed to the liner notes, says, “It’s wonderful for me to have these tapes made 52 years ago to listen to… They have a naiveté and innocence, a simplicity and directness, and an ingenuousness that reveals me as a young man struggling to keep up with the more mature and developed men around me.”
My Generation – Super Deluxe will be released on November 18th with vinyl and digital releases following on February 10th.
