THE WHO: Townshend’s Desert Trip Not a Fun One

Pete Townshend of The Who admits that the recent Desert Trip festival in Indio, California wasn’t much fun for him.

He tells London’s Times, “I would be a liar if I said, ‘It was really fun, man. It was great!’ It wasn’t great. It was a gig. I did it and I got paid. The fact is, I don’t really like performing. But I’m good at it. I’m lucky to be good at something. I could have worked in an abattoir.” He adds that after leaving the stage, he felt like saying, “What a load of crap. We pulled off another scam.”

Longtime Who fans may recall that Townshend has also been one of the few artists who never had anything good to say about playing 1969’s Woodstock. (The Guardian)
