With Metallica gearing up to do a world tour next year in support of Hardwired…to Self Destruct, they’re thinking about a time when they won’t be able to play.
Lars Ulrich spent much an interview with Billboard pondering how long the band’s members — who are all in their early 50s — can continue to play their heavy brand of music. Ulrich says, “Whether we’ll be able to play ‘Master of Puppets’ in our 70s, I just don’t know. With Metallica, there’s a physicality and a weight that has to be part of it. You can play it less heavy, slower — or you can realize that the music deserves that physical approach, and if the physical delivery isn’t there, then maybe it’s better not to do it.”
