Temple of the Dog — which is Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell singing instead of Eddie Vedder — are now three shows into their 25th Anniversary Tour and so far they’ve offered up just about the same setlist at each show.
They’ve played either 24 or 25 songs. On the second night of their two kickoff shows at the Tower Theater outside Philadelphia they added a previously unheard Cornell song, “Missing,” to the final encore. At Madison Square Garden last night they moved “Missing” up in the set at the expense of one of their seven non-Seattle-related cover tunes, “Baby Lemonade,” a post-Pink Floyd solo track by Syd Barrett.
Other than that here’s what the show has looked like:
The entire 10-cut Temple of the Dog album, with its kickoff track, “Say Hello 2 Heaven” opening each show and its closer, “All Night Thing,” ending it.
Five songs from the Mother Love Bone album
Mad Season’s “River of Deceit”
Chris Cornell’s “Seasons” and the aforementioned “Missing”
The covers: “Jump Into the Fire” by Nilsson; “I’m a Mover” by Free; “Quicksand” by David Bowie; “Achilles Last Stand” by Led Zeppelin; “Fascination Street” by The Cure; “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath; and, at the first two shows, Barrett’s “Baby Lemonade.”
Not everyone is happy about this tour. Consequence of Sound reports that Xana La Fuente, the girlfriend of the late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, to whom Temple of the Dog is dedicated, has blasted the tour and especially Chris Cornell on her blog, Xana Land. She calls the dates a cash grab and levels three accusations at Cornell:
