There’s nothing like a good rumor to liven up a pretty slow week in music news.
The Roth Army website reports that the original Van Halen, minus David Lee Roth, will reunite with Sammy Hagar for a tour next fall. We’ll stop it there — Sammy’s manager tells us there is “zero” truth to this story.
The story goes on to say that both Dave and Sammy were asked to do the tour, but Dave declined. Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang, who replaced Michael Anthony in the band, would open in support of the album he’s working on. And, once the tour were to end, that would spell the end of Van Halen with Eddie and brother Alex retiring.
But wait — there’s more. With this version of Van Halen supposedly set for its first tour since 2004, Dave also hopes to reunite with the band from his 1986 album, Eat ‘Em and Smile — guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan and drummer Gregg Bissonette.
